Mount Union Athletic Teams to Resume Competition and Honor Dan Gorman This Weekend
Mount Union's athletic teams will resume competition this weekend.
All events for Saturday will go on as scheduled.
The track and field will host a dual meet with Ohio Wesleyan University beginning with field events at 11 am at the Peterson Fieldhouse.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams host Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet Saturday at 1 pm in Hammond Natatorium.
Both basketball teams will travel to Tiffin, Ohio, for an OAC doubleheader at Heidelberg University starting with the women at 2 pm. The basketball games with Baldwin-Wallace that were postponed this past Wednesday will be made up with the men's game on Monday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 pm in Alliance and the women's game on Monday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 pm in Berea.
The wrestling quad meet will move from the Timken Physical Education Building to the Peterson Fieldhouse and is slated to begin at approximately 5 pm.
A public visitation in honor of Dan Gorman will be held in the Dewald Chapel on campus from 6-10 pm Saturday evening.
Gorman passed away unexpectedly Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained in an accident involving a bus carrying the wrestling team, coaches, statisticians returning to campus following a match at Ohio Northern.
On Sunday, the Mount Union Open wrestling tournament will go on as scheduled beginning at 10 am but the event is being relocated to the Peterson Fieldhouse. Admission to the event is $5 for adults and $2 for students and everyone will be required to use the fitness center entrance (glass wall) across from Mount Union Stadium. Visitors to the wrestling tournament will be encouraged to park in the lot in front of the Gulling Training Center and to the west of Mount Union Stadium.
A memorial and funeral service is scheduled for 1 pm on Sunday within the gymnasium inside the Timken Building of the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Media planning to cover either the public visitation or funeral service will be asked to adhere to certain restrictions out of respect for the Gorman family and the members of the Mount Union community. These restrictions will be enforced.

- Media will be required to park in the visitor row of parking just west of Beeghly Hall on Clark Avenue.
- Media will be required to check in at the media gathering area located inside Beeghly Hall, located at 1972 Clark Ave., Alliance, Ohio, 44601.
- Media will be provided with a press pass that must be worn at all times while on campus.
- A handful of members of the Mount Union community, including students, will be on hand to provide interviews. Interviews will be granted from 5:30-7 p.m. on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. These will be the only individuals on campus that will be available to comment on either day.
- Media will be escorted from Beeghly Hall to Dewald Chapel on Saturday and to the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex on Sunday. Any unescorted media found on the Mount Union campus will be asked to leave.
- There will be no photography, video or audio recording permitted of either Saturday’s visitation or Sunday’s memorial service. Media will be permitted to take photographs or gather video or audio recording from the outside of the Dewald Chapel on Saturday and McPherson Academic and Athletic complex on Sunday from a respectful and designated distance.
