Men's & Women's Soccer Teams Open OAC Slate at Wilmington; LIVE STATS

Mount Union men's and women's soccer teams open Ohio Athletic Conference play tonight at Wilmington.

The women start off the twinbill at 5 pm followed by the men's match around 7 pm.  Wilmington will provide LIVE STATS of both matches by clicking the link above.

The Raider women at 5-2-1 are off to their best start to a season in 10 years (5-3 in 2001) and have done it by scoring as they have exceeded their single season goal total from each of the last seven years in just eight matches.

Junior Kylee Kolesar (Mentor/Mentor) has led the scoring push as she has five goals and five assists and is among the OAC leaders with 15 points.

Defense has also been a key for Mount Union allowing just four goals so far this season beind the strong play fo freshman keeper Jackie Podolsky (Canfield/Canfield), who has a 0.59 goals against average and four shutouts.

Wilmington is 2-4-2 on the season, losing four of its last five matches and the Quakers have been outscored 15-10.  Sarah Watters has a team-best six points.

The men's match features a pair of teams that are tied for 10th in this week's NSCAA Great Lakes Region Coaches Poll.

Mount Union (5-3) has suffered two straight one-goal losses in a brutal strecth that included playing three matches in four days.

Sophomore Thomas Beck (Poland/Cardinal Mooney) entered the week third in the nation in scoring as he leads the Raiders with eight goals, three assists and 19 points.

Junior keeper Jon Critell (Youngstown/Cardinal Mooney) has played every minute in goal and had a 1.00 goals against average with three shutouts.

Wilmington is 4-2-1 on the season and coming off a pair of 3-2 wins over Transylvania (Ky.) and Defiance.

Henrik Hornnaess leads the Quakers in scoring with seven points.

The teams have one common non-conference opponent as Wilmington lost 1-0 to Allegheny (Pa.) while the Raiders beat the then No. 24 in the nation ranked Gators, 3-0.
