Vince Marotta competed in both football and track and field for Mount Union from 1945-1948.  Marotta served as a team captain his senior season and earned All-Ohio first-team honors.  He was the first Mount Union football player drafted into the NFL as he was taken in the 26th round (236 overall) by the NY Giants in 1948, but that was only his first brush with history as he is more well known as the inventor of the “Mr. Coffee” coffee pot.
