Rules
Current NCAA basketball rules shall govern play with exceptions noted below:
- Participants can use their own ball or check one out at the front desk. If a coed team is playing an official size ball must be used
- Games will be played to 21-must win by 2. There will be a cap on the score at 26
- Games will be played Best 2 out of 3 (first team to win 2)
- A field goal counts as 2 points and field goal made behind the NCAA men’s 3-point line will count as 3. The women’s NCAA line will be used for female players
- Each player must call their own fouls and violations. The player fouled must call it, a player on a team cannot call a foul for a teammate. If a foul is called, the ball will be checked-in at the top of the 3-point line and play will continue. Shooting fouls will be administered the same way. Flagrant fouls will not be tolerated
- The half-court line is out of bounds
- After obtaining possession of the ball following a rebound (including air-ball) the ball must be taken back to the top of the key area behind the 3-point line before a shot can be attempted. Failure to do so will result in losing possession of the ball. Teams can “fast break” by securing the rebound, getting the ball behind the 3-point line near the top of the key area and executing offense before defense is set
- Following a made basket, violation, foul, time-out or a short stoppage in play the defensive player must handle the ball (check). This will take place near the top of the key area. The offensive player receiving the ball following the check must pass the ball to initiate play. Player has 10 seconds to initiate play.
- Odd and Even will determine first ball possession. The alternating possession rule will be in effect for all subsequent jump ball situations and disputed calls. Ball possession retains after each made basket (make it-take it).
10. Any player being unsportsmanlike will be disqualified
11. An on-site supervisor will be present. Teams are expected to check-in and also provide supervisor with results. Teams can pick-up and drop-off score sheets at the front desk of the MAAC
