Rules
Team
- Consists of 5 players
- 2 forwards, 2 defenders, 1 goalie
Time
- Two 14 minute halves with a running clock
- 2 minute halftime
- Two 1 minute timeouts per game
- Player in possession of ball is only one allowed to call timeout
Pregame
- Coin toss to determine possession of the ball
- Clock begins when referee hands the goalie the ball
Substitutions
- Only can be made during timeouts, after a goal is scored, or between halves
Overtime
- 5 minute sudden death overtime
Basic Rules
- After each score, the ball is put into play from the referee by returning it to the goalie just scored upon
- If tipped out of the tube, a player may not touch or control the ball until back in the tube
- No player may leave his/her innertube and touch or maneuver the ball
Goalie
- May not throw the ball more than half the length of the pool
- May not leave his/her innertube while effectively guarding the goal
- Have 5 seconds to gain control of ball and have it touch another players hands
- Goalie is permitted to stand in tube
Field Players
- The forward line players should remain on offense and not attempt to drop back more than half the distance to the goal
- No part of the offensive players' body may penetrate the three feet line of the goal
- Field players must sit in the tubes in a reclined position
Rules
- One pass must be made before any attempted goal
- The Goalie's Area will extend three feet from the end of the
pool
- No offensive player is permitted in this area
- A free throw is awarded after a minor infraction
- Opponents may not touch, impede, or interfere with his/her attempt to pass the ball on a free throw
Equipment
- Innertubes
- Ball
- No sharp clothing or accessories
- No dangling jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings)
Penalties
- Touching the ball while outside of the tube
- Any player going into the goalies area
- Holding onto the pool wall while in possession of the ball
- Holding the ball under water
- Holding, pushing, dunking, or dumping an opponent not possessing the ball
- Grabbing or touching another player around the head, neck, legs or shoulders
- Goalie holding on to the side of the pool while catching or passing the ball
- Goalie throwing the ball more than half the distance of the pool
- Offensive player entering the goalie's area
- Attacking, striking, or kicking an opponent
- Flagrantly refusing obedience to a referee's request
- Exhibiting unsportsmanlike conduct
- Incidental contact on hands and wrists is permitted
- Referee can eject players for unsportsmanlike conduct
Free Throw
- A free throw is awarded to the nearest opponent on all personal fouls
