Baseball Beat By Walsh

(ALLIANCE, OH)--Mount Union's baseball team managed just two runs on four hits in a 10-2 loss to Walsh Tuesday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

Mount Union shortstop Matt Tracy (Pittsburgh, PA/Central Catholic) drove in a run and centerfielder Greg Ferrell (Uniontown/Green) had an RBI triple in the ninth inning to extend his school-record hitting streak to 22 games as the Purple Raiders fell to 7-7 on the season.

Walsh (7-17) belted out 19 hits, three of those along with three RBI from Marc Miller to snap a six-game skid.

The Cavaliers scored a run in the first and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead but busted the game open in the fourth inning posting five hits and five runs with two outs to take a commanding 8-0 lead.  Walsh plated two more runs in the sixth to take a 10-0 lead before the Raiders got on the board.

Jeff Kotler started and got the win as five pitchers combine to strikeout seven and hold the Raiders to their four hits.

Matt Lambert (Massillon/Massillon Washington) was one of six Mount Union arms to work and took his first loss of the season.

Mount Union next plays Wilmington at home in an Ohio Athletic Conference double header, Friday at 1 pm at 23rd Street Field.
