Mount Union junior Connor Mathis (Akron/Firestone) was named to the Preseason All-America Second Team.

Mathis, an All-American, All-Ohio Athletic Conference and All-Mideast Region first team selection in 2012, started 40 games in right field and was the conference's batting champion as he led the OAC in batting average (.450), hits (67) and runs batted in (56).  He led the team with 14 stolen bases and had just 10 strikeouts in 149 at-bats as he was also named the OAC All-Tournament Team.

Off the field, he is an Exercise Science major with a 3.63 grade point average that earned Academic All-OAC honors in 2012.

A year ago, he helped lead Mount Union to a school record for wins going 28-15 overall and their second place finish in the OAC was the best regular season finish in the conference since 1993.

The 2013 Mount Union baseball season begins March 10 with a week of games at the Russ Matt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla.
