PREVIEW: Baseball Starts OAC Schedule Friday Hosting Otterbein

Mount Union and Otterbein meet in the Ohio Athletic Conference baseball opener for both teams Friday, March 29 at 1 pm at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.

The two teams are tied as the second-best hitting teams in the conference with each squad sporting a .326 batting average. The teams are also 1-2 in the OAC in earned runs allowed by their pitching staff as Otterbein has 32 and Mount Union 35. The Cardinals also have a league-best team ERA of 2.55.

At the plate, Mount Union is led by Anthony Morino, who is fourth in the OAC in hitting with a team-best .450 batting average. He has five doubles and has driven in 15 runs. Junior Evan Knott has a team-best 16 runs batted in and is hitting .429 on the season.

On the mound, Zach Carlino and Matt Murynski are both 2-1 overall as Carlino has 21 strikeouts and a 2.79 ERA and Murzynski has 17 strikeouts with a 3.18 ERA.

Otterbein is led at the plate by All-American senior Wes Meadows. Meadows is sixth in the OAC with a .442 batting average with 18 RBI. Meadows is also 3-0 pitching with a 2.05 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 22 innings pitched.

The series is the start of a seven-game homestand for the Raiders as Mount Union hosts No. 5 in the nation Marietta next Tuesday at 1 pm, Hiram Wednesday at 3:30 pm and Baldwin Wallace next Saturday at 1 pm.
