Marietta is the two-time defending NCAA Division III National Champions. A year ago, the Pioneers won the OAC title with a 17-1 record -- that lone lone in conference play came in a 6-5 loss to the Purple Raiders.
Marietta is 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference after sweeping Ohio Northern last weekend. The Pioneers have won four-straight games and are the OAC's No. 2 rated pitching staff with a team ERA of 3.11.
Marietta has a pair of pitchers each with four wins on the season as sophomore lefty Stephen Bascom is 4-1 with 4.39 ERA while senior Mike Mulvey is 4-0 with a 2.56 ERA and fourth in the conference with 27 strikeouts.
At the plate, senior catcher Alex Toth is the conference's top hitter with a .490 batting average and leads a squad that has a .329 team batting average and is averaging over nine runs per game.
Mount Union split its OAC opener last Friday against Otterbein and the Raiders are the conference's No. 2 ranked hitting team with a .329 batting average.
Sophomore third baseman Anthony Morino tops the team and is third in the conference in hitting with a .467 batting average. Juniors Evan Knott and Ricky Olasz are hitting .451 and .410 respectively while Knott and Morino are tied for the team lead with 17 runs batted in.
On the mound, Zach Carlino is 3-1 with a 2.39 ERA and is tied for fourth in the conference with 27 strikeouts. Carlino is also second in the conference with two complete games.
