PREVIEW: Baseball Plays Pair of Non-Conference Games in Western Pennsylvania

Mount Union's baseball team goes on the road for a pair of single non-conference games in Pennsylvania Tuesday at Penn State-Behrend and Wednesday at Allegheny.

The Purple Raiders are 16-13 overall and saw a four-game win streak come to an end with a pair of losses -- 6-0 and 15-5 -- last Saturday at Heidelberg.

Mount Union is hitting .306 as a team which is the third highest average in the Ohio Athletic Conference.   

The duo of Evan Knott (Canton/GlenOak) and Anthony Morino (Strongsville/Strongsville) are the Raiders' top two hitters and the No. 6 and No. 7 rated hitters in the OAC respectively.

Knott is hitting .408 (40-of-98) with eight doubles, five triples, 30 runs and 23 RBI while Morino is hitting .402 (37-of-92) with 10 doubles, 20 runs and 24 RBI.

The Mount Union pitching staff has a 4.73 earned run average, which is seventh-best in the OAC.

Sam Clarke (Strongsville/Strongsville) is projected to start against Penn State-Behrend as he is 1-2 with a save in 32 innings pitched with 26 strikeouts.

Behrend is 20-8 overall and the Lions saw a five-game win streak snapped with a 6-3 loss to LaRoche (Pa.) last Thursday.

Taylor Overby is the top hitter with a .385 batting average while Matt Bittner has six doubles, a triple, two homers and 28 RBI for a Behrend team that is hitting .308 as a team.

On the mound, Ryan Jacobs is 6-0 in seven starts with a 1.32 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched.  The Lions have a team ERA of 2.59 with 204 strikeouts as a staff.

Allegheny is 17-10 and the Gators have lost three of their last four games.

Joe Killian is hitting .392 with 15 RBI while Zach Gray is hitting .347 with 24 RBI, four doubles a triple and a home run as Allegheny is hitting .319 as a team.

Three starting pitchers -- Steven Ramsdell, Eric Brandt and Brandon Ellis all have a team-best four wins as the Gators have a team ERA of 5.01.

After the non-conference games in Pennsylvania, Mount Union returns to OAC play Saturday at 1 pm at Wilmington.
