Behrend Gets Big Inning to Beat Baseball

ERIE, Pa. -- Mount Union's baseball team suffered a 6-2 non-conference loss at Penn State-Behrend Tuesday in Erie, Pa.

Mount Union (16-14) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly RBI by Evan Knott (Canton/GlenOak) and Justin Jakubik (Strongsville/Strongsville) drawing a bases loaded walk.

Behrend (21-8) came back in the fourth and took advantage of a pair of Mount Union errors to put up six runs (four earned) on five hits to take a 6-2 lead.

The Lions bull pen then took over as four pitchers combined to hold the Purple Raiders to just two hits over the final 6.1 innings.  Matt Parnes, who pitched 3.1 of those 6.1 innings of relief picked up the win.

Sam Clarke (Strongsville/Strongsville) started and surrendered five runs over the first 3.0 innings took the loss for Mount Union.

Scott Sherwood (Mentor/Mentor) had two hits for Mount Union.

Mount Union will play another non-conference road game Wednesday at 4 pm at Allegheny in Meadville, Pa.
