PREVIEW: Baseball Travels to Muskingum For OAC Regular Season Finale

Mount Union's baseball team heads to Muskingum for an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader Saturday at 1 pm in New Concord, Ohio.

The Purple Raiders enter the series with a record of 18-15 overall and at 9-7 in the OAC need just one win to secure a bid in next week's four-team OAC Tournament for a third straight season.

Sophomore Anthony Morino (Strongsville/Strongsville) is the OAC's top hitter with a .434 batting average and leads a Mount Union lineup that is fourth in the conference with a .300 batting average.

Morino and junior Evan Knott (Canton/GlenOak) are tied for the team lead with 26 runs batted in.

The pitching staff is fifth in the OAC with a 4.49 earned run average as junior Zach Carlino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) (7-1, 2.19 ERA) has a conference-best five complete games and is tied for the OAC lead with seven wins.

Sophomore Sam Clarke (Strongsville/Strongsville) will also get a start as he is 2-3 with a save with a 4.07 earned run average and 32 strikeouts.

Mount Union is the second-best fielding team in the conference with a .965 fielding percentage.

The Muskies (9-27, 5-11 OAC) snapped a three-game skid with a 22-10 win over Ohio Wesleyan this past Wednesday.

Muskingum is ninth in the OAC in batting average (.258), earned run average (5.88) and fielding percentage (.936).

Freshman Brett Robberts has a team-best .352 batting average while junior Matt Connor has 19 RBI and is one of seven with at least 10 RBI.

Junior Alex VanDine (1-4) leads the Muskie pitchers with a 3.78 ERA and 34 strikeouts.

Muskingum has an OAC high 83 errors in the field that have resulted in 67 unearned runs.

The OAC Tournament begins next Thursday, May 9 at Don Schaly Stadium in Marietta, Ohio.
