Baseball Falls To Penn State-Behrend 10-5

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team lost to Penn State-Behrend 10-5 in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at 23rd street field.

Mount Union (20-16) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a Sean Mohney (Lodi/Cloverleaf) two-out RBI double to center field allowing Justin Jakubik (Strongsville/Strongsville) to come in and score for the Purple Raiders.

Behrend (27-10) answered in the top of the fourth as Evan Bukowski would score on a RBI ground out to first base by teammate Matt Bittner. Corey Bowers walked in the fourth and then advanced to third on a base hit by Jordan Weinzierl and later came in to score on a passed ball. The Lions would take the 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. 

The Raiders would tie the game in the bottom of the fourth as Connor Mathis (Akron/Firestone) would score on an RBI single from Jakubik.

Behrend would take the lead and go on for the victory as they would put up three runs in the sixth and five runs in the eighth. The Raiders would score three runs in the remainder of the game, one in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Matt Parnes, who pitched 3.0 innings with allowing only two hits, picked up the win for the Lions.

Mathis went three-for-four on the day with one run scored and one RBI for Mount Union.

Mount Union will travel to Marietta, Ohio to take on John Carroll in the OAC Tournament Thursday, May 9th, first pitch is slated for 4:00 pm at Don Schaly Stadium.
