AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Mount Union's baseball team split a pair of games with Marymount (Va.) Saturday in Auburndale, Florida.
The Purple Raiders (5-5) lost game one 3-2 but rallied to win game two 2-1 in extra innings.
In game one, Marymount scored the winning run on a suicide squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh to rally to beat the Raiders, 3-2.
Mount Union trailed 2-0 until the top of the seventh inning as the Raiders got a pair of hits from Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) and Scott Sherwood (Mentor/Mentor) but took advantage of an error, a couple walks and a wild pitch to score two runs and tie the game.
Noah Skladan (Amherst/Steele) went the distance on the mound, striking out six but took the loss.
Marymount got an early lead in game two with a run in the top of the second inning but the Raiders came back and tied it in the bottom of the same inning on a sacrifice fly RBI from Cole Carlino (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic).
Marymount tried to take the lead in the seventh with two runners on base then a ball hit to Goodall in left field and he threw out a runner a third base before another base runner crossed home plate to end the inning and send the game to extras.
Nick Satovich (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) got a two-out single in the eighth, moved to second on a wild pitch and Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) brought him home for the win on a walk-off double.
Gino Ceriani (Ellowood City, Pa./Lincoln) came out of the pen and worked a scoreless eighth for the win while Beau Taylor (Alliance/West Branch) went the first seven innings striking out seven and allowing only one run in getting the no decision.
Mount Union wraps up its Florida trip with a doubleheader Sunday against Wartburg (Iowa).
