MARIETTA, Ohio -- Mount Union was swept at home by Marietta -- 6-5 and 18-8 -- in an Ohio Athletic Conference baseball series Saturday at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
The Purple Raiders fall to 8-9 overall and 0-2 in the OAC while Marietta is 10-6 overall and 2-0 in the OAC.
Marietta rallied with a run in the top of the seventh of game one to get a 6-5 win.
Mount Union led 1-0 with a run in the first, Marietta would take a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second and the Raiders got one back in the bottom of the frame to tie it at 2-2.
Marietta extended the lead to 3-2 with a run in the third and 4-2 with another in the fourth before Mount Union scored runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game at 4-4.
Both teams scored runs in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.
Sam Clarke (Strongsville/Strongsville) gave up five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts on the mound for Mount Union but Geno Ceriani (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) took the loss in relief to fall to 1-2 on the season.
David Stover allowed just one hit over the final 2.1 innings to get the win for Marietta while Chris Petrucci had three hits and drove in two runs including the game-winner.
Marietta led game two 12-0 after five innings but the Raiders rallied with six runs in the bottom of the fifth but the Pioneers scored six unanswered over the next three innings and went on to an 18-8 win.
Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) had three hits as the Raiders had 16 hits for the game.
Kyle Toma (Strongsville/Strongsville) took the loss allowing seven runs (four earned) over 4.1 innings to fall to 2-2 on the season.
Mount Union committed five errors that resulted in 11 unearned runs.
Tim McCoy went 5-for-6 with two RBI and Petrucci went 4-for-5 with four RBI while Tommy Crowl got the win on the mound for Marietta.
The Raiders next host Thiel (Pa.) Wednesday, March 30 at 2 p.m. at 23rd St. Field in Alliance.
