Baseball: Raiders Run, Pitch & Hit Their Way Past Bridgewater in Sweep

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Mount Union's baseball team pounded out 19 runs on 25 hits, stole 10 bases while the pitchers allowed just seven hits in a 7-1 and 12-3 sweep of Bridgewater (Va.) Wednesday at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.

The Purple Raiders are now 5-2 overall while Bridgewater fell to 5-7 overall.

Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) drove in five runs on five hits over the four games and Joey Keleman (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) had four hits as they paced a Mount Union offense that has had double digit hits in five of the seven games so far this season.

Mount Union's pitchers did not allow earned run over 14 innings of work on the day.

Mitch McCristall (Mansfield/Ontario) allowed only two hits over five innings to pick up his first win of the season while Mike Martin (Independence/Independence) and Ryan Shaner (New Castle, Pa. / Mohawk) combined to allow just one hit over the final two innings in game one.

In the night cap, Noah Skladan (Amherst/Steele) started and allowed three hits over four innings, Darren Krowlikowski (Independence/Independence) allowed one hit over two innings for his second win of the season in relief while Shaner pitched the final inning. 

In game one, Bridgewater pushed an unearned run across the plate in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead but Mount Union would score seven unanswered over the next five innings in the win.

In game two, Mount Union broke a 3-3 game open with a eight-run fifth inning in the 12-3 rout.

The Raiders come back Thursday at 5 p.m. with a nine-inning game against DeSales (Pa.) at Lake Myrtle.
