Baseball: Raiders Power Past Ohio Northern in Sweep

ADA, Ohio – Mount Union's baseball team powered past Ohio Northern sweeping a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference games 6-2 and 9-1 Saturday in Ada.

The Purple Raiders have won six of their last seven games are 18-5 overall and remain in first place in the OAC with an 7-1 record.

Mount Union got power pitching performances from starters Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) and Noah Skladan (Amherst/Steele) while at the plate the Raiders hit three home runs over the two games.

Mary no hit Ohio Northern (11-12, 2-4 OAC) into the eighth inning before surrendering a one-out single to Jason Burkett but he finished the game throwing just 72 pitches, striking out four while moving to 6-0 on the season.

Offensively, Travis Wood (Hudson/Hudson) hit a two-run home run, Nick Satovich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) drove in three runs on two hits and Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) had an RBI as the Raiders ran out to a 6-0 lead after 8.0 innings.

Skladan scattered four hits in blanking the Polar Bears over the first 7.0 innings and moved to 3-1 on the season.

Mount Union scored its first three runs of the game via the home run as Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) blasted a two-run shot in the third and then a solo homer from Kyle Spellman (Ravenna/Ravenna) in the sixth.

The Raiders then blew the game open with a five-run eighth as the big hit came on a two-out, two-run single from Scott.

Mount Union hosts a pair OAC doubleheaders next week against John Carroll on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and Friday at 1 p.m. against Capital.
