Mount Union sophomore pitcher Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was named the Mideast Region Pitcher of the Year by both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com.
Mary along with junior center fielder Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) were also All-Mideast Region First Team selections on both teams.
Both players were All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team selections in leading the Purple Raiders to a single-season record for wins and its first regular season conference title since 1970.
Mary won the Kent Tekulve OAC Pitcher of the Year award after leading the conference with a 10-0 record and a 0.81 earned run average. That earned run averaged is second-best in the nation as Mary allowed just seven earned runs in 81 innings pitched this season.
Goodall was the first-ever Mount Union player to earn the Dr. Bob Fisher OAC Player of the Year since the award began in 1978.
The Raiders center fielder led the conference with a .454 batting average and 25 stolen bases. His .454 batting average is best in a season for Mount Union hitter since All-American Chris Tucker hit .475 in 2000 and his 25 stolen bases helped the Raiders set a team single season record 114 steals. He also tied an OAC Tournament record with five hits in a single game and was named to the OAC All-Tournament Team.
