WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Mount Union extends their win streak to five after a 16-6 win against Desales (Pa.) Monday afternoon at Chain O'Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Florida.

With the win, Mount Union advances to 5-1 while Desales (Pa.) drops to 4-4 on the year.

The Raiders got another stellar starting pitching performance, this time from senior Mike Martin (Independence) (1-0) as he went 6.0 innings while giving up eight hits and just three runs, two earned, in his first start of the year.

The Raider offense pounded out 15 hits and scored 16 runs led by junior Niklas Kuriger (Atco. N.J./Winslow Township) who had three doubles and four RBI's off the bench for the Raiders.

The Raiders jumped on the Bulldogs in the top of the first as they scored five quick runs and batted around off the Bulldog starting pitcher, Ian Kacergis (0-3).

Junior Nate Owen (Cranberyy Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) started off the inning with a double and Christian Stanziano (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) switched spots with Owen with a double of his own and scored Owen. Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) kept it going with a single and Joey Keleman (North Olmsted) got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Senior Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) ripped a liner off the shortstops glove and scored Stanziano and kept the bases loaded.

A Travis Wood (Hudson) fielder's choice scored the third Mount Union run and a sacrifice fly from Neil Hutchison (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional) scored Keleman to put the fourth run on the board in the first inning. Senior Angelo Cruz (Lorain/Elyria Catholic) knocked a grounder off the pitcher which scored Wood and the Raiders led 5-0 after the top of the first.

In the bottom half of the first, Martin got himself in a bases loaded, nobody out jam but came out unscathed with a strikeout, pop out and a fly out.

Desales got two runs back in the bottom half of the second to make the score 5-2 through two innings.

The Raiders would tack on another run in the fifth on a Collin Scott (Richmond/Edison) single through the right side which made the score 6-2 but the Bulldogs answered with a run of their own in the sixth.

Mount Union added four insurance runs led by a Kuriger double in the seventh and six more in the ninth. Senior reliever Collin Fitzgerald (LaGrange/Keystone) earned the save out of the Raider bullpen as he went three innings while giving up three runs.

The Raiders will have a day off tomorrow before they travel to Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida for a series versus Thomas More (Ky.) the first game starting at 10 a.m.
