LAKELAND, Fla. – Mount Union's baseball team swept Thomas More (Ky.)in a doubleheader with scores of 4-3 and 3-2 Wednesday afternoon at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida to match their longest win streak from a year ago of seven games.

With the sweep, the Raiders advance to 7-1 overall while Thomas More drops to 0-3 so far on the year.

Game one saw a back-and-forth game as junior Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) singled in what ended up being the game-winning RBI in the seventh inning.  The Raider right fielder went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with the one run batted in.

Junior pitcher Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) earned his second win of the year (2-1) as he threw a complete game with 10 strikeouts and just three runs, two of them earned.

Mount Union jumped on the Saints early as Owen scored the first run of the game in the first when Billy Goodall (South Range/Canfield) stole second.

The Saints would tie the game at one off a Blaise Ostertag solo homerun in the bottom half of the third. However, the Raiders would recapture the lead when a Niklas Kuriger (Atco, N.J./Winslow Township) single down the left field line scored Joey Keleman (North Olmsted) from second after he stole the bag earlier in the inning.

Thomas More would knot the game at two in the fifth off a Jimmy Scott (Holland/Toledo St. John's) error but Scott redeemed himself with an RBI single in the sixth that scored Goodall to make the score 3-2.

The Saints would not go away as they scored again in the sixth to tie the game at three. In the seventh, Nick Satovich (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) led off the inning with a double and after two straight outs, Owen ripped a single through the left side to score pinch-runner Nate Emerson (Franklin, Pa./Franklin Area) and put the Raiders up for good at 4-3.

Game two saw Billy Goodall have the only RBI for the Raiders as he went 1-1 with a single, a walk and a sac fly.

Senior pitcher Noah Skladan (Amherst/Steele) threw five innings and got the win as he goes to 2-0 on the year. Skladan had five strikeouts with four walks while giving up two earned runs. Senior Beau Taylor (Alliance/West Branch) earned a save after he replaced Skladan in the sixth inning and shut the Saints offense down.

Mount Union jumped on the Saints early again as Goodall scored Christian Stanziano (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) on a sacrifice fly and the Raiders added two more in the second as Scott scored on a wild pitch and Kuriger scored on a throwing error from the first baseman.

The Saints found some luck off Skladan in the fourth as a couple Raiders lost the ball in the sun leading to a Matt Wellbrook double that scored two Saints to make the score 3-2 before a Skladan strikeout ended the scoring for the Saints.

Next up for the Raiders is a single game tomorrow, March 8 at 1 p.m. against Rhode Island College at Henley Field in Lakeland, Florida.
