AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union junior pitcher Phil Mary (Venentia, Pa./Peters Township) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the fourth time of his career. (3/12)
Mary posted a 2-0 record over the spring trip with wins over Hanover (Ind.) and Thomas More (Ky.). The junior pitcher had two complete games with 22 strikeouts, two walks and just four runs, three of them earned (1.93 ERA).
In the 5-1 win over Hanover (Ind.), Mary posted a career-high 12 strikeouts to kick off the Florida trip with just one walk and one earned run that came in the first inning. Mary had a stretch in that game where he struck out six consecutive Panthers.
In the 4-3 win against Thomas More (Ky.), Mary had 10 more strikeouts with only one walk. He gave up just two earned runs and three total.
Mary and the Purple Raiders finished with an 8-1 record in Florida and are 8-2 overall on the season. They will be back in action Thursday, March 15th as they have a double-header against LaRoche (Pa.) with the first game starting at 1 p.m.
