AUSTINTOWN, Ohio -- Mount Union seniors Beau Taylor (Alliance/West Branch) and Christian Stanziano (Oberlin/Elyria Catholic) have earned the pitcher and hitter of the week in the Ohio Athletic Conference. (4/2)
This is the first time in their career that Stanziano and Taylor have earned the awards.
In the three games this past week, Taylor threw a combined eight innings giving up no runs on just three hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk.
In the 4-2 win against Thiel, Taylor came on to throw three innings of one-hit baseball along with four strikeouts to get the save. In game one against Baldwin Wallace where the Purple Raiders won 5-3, Taylor came on in the ninth to a tie game where he threw two innings allowing one hit with two strikeouts to earn the win. Taylor came on in the 4-1 game two win for a three inning save where he allowed just one hit with four strikeouts.
Stanziano is currently rocking an 18-game hit streak that dates back to last year. In the three games this week, Stanziano hit .462 on 6-for-13 hitting with four runs batted in.
In the game against Thiel, Stanziano was 2-4 with a double and an rbi. In game one against Baldwin Wallace, Stanziano got what ended up being the game-winning hit that scored two runs in the 10th inning to put the Raiders up 5-3. In game two of the sweep of the Yellow Jackets, Stanziano was 3-for-4 with another rbi to lead the Raider offense.
Taylor, Stanziano and the rest of the Purple Raiders (13-4,4-0) will be back in action on Wednesday, April 4 at Pitt-Greensburg with the first pitch coming at 3 p.m.
