GREENVILLE, Pa. – Mount Union's baseball team defeated Thiel in a nonconference match-up by a score of 11-7 Sunday at Tomcat Park.

Mount Union advances to 16-11 overall while Thiel drops to 13-17 overall.

Senior Billy Goodall (Canfield/South Range) led the Purple Raider offense as he was a perfect 4-for-4 from the plate with a walk and two doubles along with two runs batted in.

Sophomore Tyler Gorse (Glenshaw, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) got his first win for the Raiders as he pitched two shutout innings out of the pen allowing only one hit.

The Tomcats jumped on Mount Union starting pitcher Darren Krolikowski (Independence) as they scored four runs in in the first three innings before the Raiders could get on the board. In the fifth, the Raiders got a run from Goodall as he scored on a Joey Keleman (North Olmsted) double in the fifth to make the score 4-1.

Thiel got that run back as a balk scored a run for the Tomcats to make the score 5-1.

Mount Union then scored in the remaining four innings to grab a lead they would not surrender.

In the sixth, Goodall drove in two runs on a double that scored Nathan Duliba (Berea/Berea-Midpark) and Ray Belchick (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin). Shawn Baker (Uniontown/Lake) then reached on a throwing error that scored Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp.,Pa/Seneca Valley) to make the score 5-4.

Thiel answered in the bottom of the sixth as they scored three runs to make the score 7-4.

The Raiders then scored once in the seventh on a Duliba double to make the score 7-5 and took the lead in the eighth as they scored three times. Keleman got his second hit of the game that scored Goodall and a bases loaded walk to Scott Cooney (North Olmsted) tied the game at 7-7. Mount Union grabbed the lead 8-7 when a throwing error by the pitcher scored Ryan Boyd (Wooster).

After a double play got Gorse out of trouble in the eighth, the Raider offense tacked on three more in the ninth to grab some insurance.

Baker doubled to left that scored Owen and Duliba and put the score at 10-7 and Jake Smith (Salem/West Branch) reached on an error that scored Goodall for 11-7 final.

Mount Union is back in action on Monday, April 23rd at 1 p.m. hosting Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at 23rd Street Field in Alliance.
