SANFORD, Fla. -- Mount Union's baseball team rallied for a 5-2 win in game two to salvage a split with Suffolk (Mass.) Sunday at Sanford Memorial Stadium.
Senior Billy Goodall (Canfield / South Range) had two hits in the game one 4-2 loss as the Raiders registered for eight hits.
Junior Tyler Gorse (Glenshaw, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) pitched 3.1 innings striking out one batter while freshmen Thomas Yuras (Mentor / Lake Catholic) and Dan Zelina (Mentor) combined to pitch three hits and one run over 2.2 innings of work.
Suffolk (3-2) plated runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run double to start game one and take a 4-0 advantage.
Mount Union shrank the deficit to two after a sacrifice fly from sophomore Nathan Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark). Later in the inning, the Raiders cut into the lead to one off an RBI single from senior Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley).
The Rams added an insurance run in the top of the fifth to go on to take the victory 4-2.
In the second game, Suffolk again jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
Mount Union began to comeback in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI groundout cutting the deficit to 2-1.
A Rams error resulted in the game being tied at two in the bottom of fifth. Senior Nick Satovich (New Kensington, Pa. / Plum) scored on a passed ball to give the Raiders the lead at 3-2.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, junior Shawn Baker (Uniontown / Lake) hit a two-run homerun to give the Raiders the 5-2 final.
Sophomore Ben Schroth (Medina / Highland) struck out six and only allowed five hits through 5.0 innings pitched for the win.
Mount Union (5-1) will return to action on Tuesday against Concordia Moorhead in a 9:45 a.m. doubleheader at Osceola Heritage Park.
