KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Mount Union's baseball team got a pair of strong pitching performances in 10-1 and 5-2 wins over Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) Tuesday at Osceola Heritage Park.
Senior Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) struck out 10 batters over 6.0 innings of work allowing only two hits in a 10-1 game one win while sophomore Carson Davis (Louisville) went the distance on a complete game 5-2 win in game two.
In game one, the Raiders broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI double from senior Scott Cooney (North Olmsted). Later in the inning, senior Nick Satovich (New Kensington, Pa. / Plum) doubled the lead with an RBI single to make it 2-0.
Mount Union then blew the game open with a six-run fourth sparked by a two RBI triple from senior Bryant Kennedy (Chagrin Falls) and go on to the 10-1 victory.
In game two, the Raiders plated four runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead highlighted by a two-run double from junior Travis Wood (Hudson).
An insurance run in the top of the seventh on a single from sophomore Trey Weaver (Franklin, Pa. / Franklin Area) stretched the margin to 5-0.
Concordia-Moorhead (5-6) tried to rally in the seventh with a pair of runs, but Davis, who at one point retired 10-straight Cobbers, finished the game off for the Raiders first complete game pitching performance of the season.
Mount Union had 10 hits again led by Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley), who had three hits.
Mount Union (7-1) is back at the diamond on Thursday against Salve Regina (R.I.) in a 1:15 p.m. doubleheader at Lake Myrtle Park.
