ALLIANCE, Ohio --Mount Union's baseball team defeated Pitt.-Greensburg in thrilling fashion 10-9 in non-conference action Wednesday at 23rd Street Field.
Mount Union, now 14-6 overall, was led by Billy Goodall (Canfield / South Range) who registered two hits and drove in two runs to headline the Purple Raider offense.
The Raiders used three pitchers in the game as Thomas Gallant (Pataskala / Watkins Memorial) went the first 2.0 innings striking out two batters while Tyler Gorse (Glenshaw, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) scattered five hits over 5.0 innings of work for his second victory of the season.
After Pitt.-Greensburg (5-13) scored a run in the second, the Raiders retaliated scoring two runs off a wild pitch and an RBI single from Goodall that scored Joey Nave (Toronto / Edison) from third to make it 4-1. Later in the inning, White hit an RBI single that allowed Goodall to score giving Mount Union a 5-1 lead.
The Bobcats took the lead plating six runs in the third and a single run in the fifth to make it 8-5.
Pitt.-Greensburg added a run in the eighth before the Raiders responded in the bottom half with an RBI groundout from Goodall to shrink the deficit to 9-8.
In the ninth inning, Mount Union tied the game at 9 off a wild pitch that scored Quentin Peters (Fort Pierce, Fla. / Lincoln Park Academy). The Raiders won the game on a fielder's choice that scored Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) to take a 10-9 victory.
The Raiders return to Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday, April 6 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Ohio Northern in Ada.
