Baseball: Raiders Split in OAC Action with Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team split in Ohio Athletic Conference action losing the first game 5-2 before collecting the victory in the second game 4-0 Saturday at Wander Field.

The Purple Raiders, 15-7 overall and 2-4 in the OAC, belted out 17 hits over the two games. Corey White (Louisville) registered five combined hits while Bryant Kennedy (Chagrin Falls) collected three hits in game two to headline the offense.

Ohio Northern (10-11, 2-4 OAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two RBI singles in the second and third innings to start game one.

A sacrifice fly from White in the fifth and an RBI double from Coleman Stauffer (Boardman) in the sixth tied the game at 2.

The Polar Bears responded adding single runs in the sixth and seventh to go on to the 4-2 final.

Billy Keller (Medina / Highland) pitched 5.1 innings, striking out two batters to take the loss.

In game two, the Raiders got on the board in the top of the third as a sacrifice fly from Billy Goodall (Canfield / South Range) and an RBI single from White to make it 2-0.

Kennedy homered in the sixth extended the lead to 3-0.

The Raiders added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with an RBI single from Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) to go on to the 4-0 victory.

Nick Satovich (New Kensington, Pa. / Plum) pitched 7.0 innings fanning five batters for the win while Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) struck out one batter over 2.0 innings of work for the save.

Mount Union continues Ohio Athletic Conference play facing Marietta on Tuesday, April 9 in a 4 p.m. doubleheader in Marietta.
