Baseball: Raiders Sweep Capital on Senior Day; Mary Registers Season-high 13 Strikeouts

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union's baseball team swept Capital 8-0 and 3-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Senior Day Saturday at 23rd Street Field. 

The Purple Raiders shift to 20-12 and 7-9 in the OAC while Capital moves to 11-23 and 6-10 in conference play.

Phil Mary (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Township) struck out a season-high 13 batters for the complete game one win while three different Raiders collected three hits between both games to headline the offense. 

Mount Union got on the board in the first inning of game one with an RBI single from Bryant Kennedy (Chagrin Falls) to take a 1-0 lead.

The Raiders plated seven runs in the seventh sparked by a two-RBI single from Joey Nave (Toronto / Edison) to go on to the 8-0 win.

Capital got on the board first in game two with a two-RBI single in the second to make it 2-0.

The Raiders plated a run in the eighth off an RBI double from Nate Owen (Cranberry Twp., Pa. / Seneca Valley) to shrink the deficit to 2-1. Later in the inning, a walk tied the game at 2.

A bases-loaded walk in the ninth drove in the winning run for Mount Union to take a 3-2 victory. 

Carson Davis (Louisville) pitched 5.0 innings of work fanning five batters in line for the win while Dan Zelina (Mentor) came in relief and pitched 4.0 innings and did not allow a hit. 

Mount Union stays at home playing Wooster in a nine-inning 4 p.m. single game on Monday, April 29 at 23rd Street Field.
