Shorts Named National Offensive Player of the Year; Headline All-American Football Selections

(SALEM, VA)—Cecil Shorts III (Cleveland/Collinwood) became a consensus All-American as he was named to the AP Little All-America and D3Football.com All-American teams and headlined 10 Mount Union football players named to the teams.  Shorts was also named the Offensive Player of the Year by D3Football.com

The senior wide receiver finished the season with 100 catches for 1,736 yards and 19 touchdowns over the air and also had 206 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on the ground.  He won the Ed Sherman Award as the Ohio Athletic Conference's top receiver for a second straight season and was joined on the AP Little All-America team by senior left tackle Caleb Crowl.

Crowl anchored an offensive line for the nation's No. 3 rated total offense and No. 1 rated passing efficiency offense.

Other selections to the D3Football.com teams included

Senior defensive lineman Matt Williamson (Columbus/DeSales) and junior linebacker Sam Kershaw (West Jefferson/West Jefferson) were both first team selections.

Senior tight end Kyle Miller (Elida/Elida) was named to the second team offense, while senior quarterback Kurt Rocco was named to the third team offense and senior defensive lineman James Herbert (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia), senior linebacker Judd Lutz (Tiffin/Tiffin Columbian) and senior safety Drew McClain (Newark/Licking Valley) were third team defense selections.
