No. 1 ranked Mount Union will host No. 12 ranked Wittenberg in an NCAA Division III Second Round Playoff Game Saturday, November 30 at noon at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance, Ohio.
Wittenberg won the North Coast Athletic Conference title and defeated Lebanon Valley (Pa.), 59-17, in a first round game at home last week.
The Tigers, members of the OAC from 1935-1988 with 15 conference titles, are making their 16th NCAA Playoff appearance with a 21-13 record in tournament games. The Tigers won the inaugural NCAA Division III Tournament in 1973, added a second title in 1975 and finished as national runner-up in 1978 and 1979.
This game will be the 29th meeting between the teams with Wittenberg holding an 18-10 lead in a series that dates back to 1916. The Purple Raiders have won seven of the last eight meetings including the last time the teams played in a 2001 NCAA Quarterfinal game that Mount Union won 49-21 in Alliance.
Mount Union, ranked No. 1 in both the American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com rankings, defeated Washington & Jefferson (Pa.), 34-20 in a first round game in Alliance last week.
The Purple Raiders are 11-0 overall, won their 22nd straight and 25th overall Ohio Athletic Conference championship and have the nation's longest win streak at 26 games.
Mount Union has a 79-13 record in NCAA Playoff games. The Raiders have advanced to the Stagg Bowl 16 times and have won a record 11 National Championships.
The winner of the this game plays the winner of a matchup between No. 15 Wesley (Del.) and No. 24 Ithaca (N.Y.) next week in the quarterfinals.
The national championship game -- the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl will be played Friday, Dec. 20 at 7 pm at Salem Stadium in Salem, Virginia.
