Football: Purple Raiders Picked at Top of Polls at OAC Football Media Day

Vince Kehres begins his second season as head coach at Mount Union

CANTON, Ohio--Mount Union's football team tops both Ohio Athletic Conference media and coaches preseason polls announced today (Aug. 6) at OAC Football Media Day at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

Mount Union garnered nine of 10 first place votes in the coaches poll and 30 of 36 first place votes in the media poll.  The other first place votes in both polls belong to second-ranked John Carroll.

The Purple Raiders went 14-1 last season, won the OAC championship for a 22nd straight season (25th overall) and advanced to the Stagg Bowl -- NCAA Division III title game for a ninth year in a row.

"We appreciate the respect that coaches and the media in the OAC have for our program," commented second-year head coach Vince Kehres. "We also know that playing in this conference is a tremendous challenge week in and week out."

The football team reports back to campus on Wednesday, Aug. 13 and starts practice on Thursday, Aug. 14.  Photo day/media day on campus will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 10 am in Mount Union Stadium.  A scrimmage against Washington & Jefferson (Pa.)
