No. 3 ranked University of Mount Union plays Adrian (Mich.) College in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Football Playoffs Saturday, Nov. 22 at 12 pm at Mount Union Stadium in Alliance, Ohio.
The Purple Raiders are 10-0 overall and one of 24 conference champions to claim an automatic bid as Mount Union won its 23rd straight and 26th overall Ohio Athletic Conference title with a 9-0 record.
Mount Union is ranked No. 3 in both the AFCA (American Football Coaches Association) and D3Football.com Top 25 polls while being No. 1 in the NCAA Division III North Region poll which is used for seeding and at-large selections for the championship.
Mount Union has an 82-14 record in NCAA Playoff games and the Raiders have advanced to the Stagg Bowl 17 times since 1993 with a record 11 National Championships.
Adrian is 8-2 overall and the Bulldogs are in the tournament as the champions of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Adrian is making its fourth ever NCAA Playoff appearance (1983, 1988 and 2012) and are 0-3 in playoff games.
It will be the 10th meeting between the schools with Mount Union holding a 7-2 lead in the series. The teams last played in season openers in 1992 and 1993 with the Raiders winning both games 21-12 in Alliance in 1992 and 42-0 in Adrian in 1993.
The game will be broadcast LIVE on the radio on 1310AM WDPN and WRMU 91.1 FM. There will be no video or television broadcast of the game.
The winner of this game will take on the winner of a matchup between Wittenberg and Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) Saturday, November 29 at noon at a location to be announced.
