Football: Mount Union in Preseason Publications; Raiders Ranked No. 1 By Lindy's & Sporting News

Lindy's Preseason Football Annual

The Purple Raiders are picked No. 1 in the preseason and have six preseason All-Americans in Lindy's College Football Annual.

Defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater is ranked No. 2 while preseason scrimmage opponent Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) in No. 9 and John Carroll sits in the No. 12 spot.

Senior wide receiver Roman Namdar (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) was named preseason Offensive Player of the Year while senior lineman Tom Lally (Fairview Park/Lakewood St. Edward) was named preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Namdar and Lally were both first team preseason All-Americans along with senior offensive tackle Michael Frank (Eastlake/Eastlake North), senior cornerback Tre Jones (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) and senior safety Alex Kocheff (Chagrin Falls/Kenston).

Senior linebacker Hank Spencer (Greencastle, Ind./North Putnam) was a preseason second team All-American selection.

The magazine highlighted Mount Union's regular season finale at John Carroll on November 14 as one of five national games on watch.

Mount Union holds down the top spot followed by Linfield (Ore.) at No. 2 with Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) at No. 4 and John Carroll at No. 14.

Namdar, Lally, Kocheff and Frank are all listed as preseason All-Americans.

Mount Union got six first place votes but is ranked No. 2 behind Wisconsin-Whitewater in the preseason poll by website  

UW-Whitewater got 18 first place votes while the other first place vote went to No. 3 ranked Linfield.  John Carroll sits at No. 8 while Washington & Jefferson is No. 15 as the 25 voters make up one of two national polls that runs throughout the season.

The same six players are all first team preseason All-American selections as Namdar and Frank are on offense while Lally, Spencer, Kocheff and Jones are on the defense.

OAC Football Media Day - Tuesday, August 4

Mount Union head coach Vince Kehres along with Alex Kocheff will represent the Purple Raiders at the Ohio Athletic Conference Football Preview - Tuesday, August 4 at 10:30 am at the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

All 10 conference coaches along with players from each school will be on hand as it is the first time the event is held the same week as enshrinement events in Canton.
