The matchup: Mount Union opens Ohio Athletic Conference play hosting Muskingum Saturday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.  The Purple Raiders were picked by coaches and the media in the preseason to win their 27th overall and 24th straight OAC title.  Muskingum was picked seventh in both polls.

Raiders roll in opener: Mount Union scored a 47-0 shutout of Bethany in its season opener two weeks ago.  Senior quarterback Taurice Scott (Alliance/Alliance) led the Raiders with three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in his first career start.  Scott threw for 206 and ran for a team-best 85 on 11 carries.  All three passing TD's went to senior Roman Namdar (Southlake, Texas/Carroll), who had 125 yards receiving.  The defense had 11 tackles for loss and six sacks as they held Bethany to 69 total yards.  Jonathan Gonell (Pembroke Pines, Fla./University School) had nine stops while Tom Lally (Fairview Park/Lakewood St. Edward) had 2.5 sacks.

Muskies hooked at home: Muskingum suffered a 35-10 loss to Waynesburg in its season opener.  The Muskies trailed 14-10 at halftime but Waynesburg scored 21 unanswered in the second half for the win.  Senior quarterback Cody Williams went 10-for-21 for 127 yards and two interceptions passing and was also the leading rusher with 10 carries for 57 yards.  Senior linebacker Zach Barry had 10 tackles and a sack to lead the defense.

Home sweet home: Mount Union has an 87-game home field winning streak dating back to a 21-14 loss to Ohio Northern in 2005.

The series: This is the 70th meeting between the teams with Mount Union holding a 38-29-2 lead in the series that dates back to a 23-0 Muskingum win on November 3, 1906. The Raiders have won 26-straight meetings since a 17-17 tie in 1988 in Alliance. The last Muskie win in the series came in a 24-19 victory in 1984 in Alliance.

Hall of Fame day: Mount Union's M Club will induct its 2015 hall of fame class and honor special award winners at halftime. The class includes Kris Bugara '99 (football), Dave Cooper '00 (Cross Country and Track & Field), Katie Harrington '00 (women's basketball), Steve Lacher '88 (wrestling), Jerry Tennant '00 (wrestling) and Chris Tucker '99 (baseball). Don Montgomery '77 will receive the M Club Award of Excellence – an award given to an M Club member in recognition of career experiences or activities that have brought honor and recognition to the individual and, in turn, Mount Union after graduation. Bob Buchs '54 and Vince Obmann '55 will each receive the Hugh Jae Award. This is a new award established to recognize M Club members who have distinguished themselves in service to the M Club.

Turning over: Mount Union did not get a turnover against Bethany which stopped a 14-game streak.  Ironically the Raiders did not get a turnover against Bethany in 2014.

Up next: Mount Union makes its first road trip in 2015 playing next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Marietta.
