Football: #1 Mount Union Crushes Quakers, 69-0; Raiders Win 100th Straight Regular Season Game

WILMINGTON, Ohio – No. 1 ranked Mount Union won its 100th consecutive regular season football game with a 69-0 Ohio Athletic Conference victory Saturday over Wilmington.

The Purple Raiders move to 7-0 overall, 6-0 in the OAC, and their last regular season loss was a 21-14 loss to Ohio Northern on Oct. 22, 2005.  Mount Union won 110 straight regular season games from 1994 to that 2005 loss.

Mount Union quarterback Taurice Scott (Alliance/Alliance) threw a career-best five touchdown passes as he completed 11-of-12 passes for 254 yards in playing to the middle of the second quarter leading the Raiders to touchdowns on each of their first nine possessions.

Jordan Hargrove (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) had four catches for 95 yards with a touchdown and Logan Nemeth (McBain, Mich./McBain) ran for 74 yards on 10 carries with a score as the offense and had 533 yards.

Tom Lally (Fairview Park/Lakewood St. Edward) had seven tackles – 2.5 for loss – and a sack while Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) had two interceptions – one ran back 40 yards for a score – as the Raiders held Wilmington (1-6, 0-6 OAC) to 87 total yards including a school record minus-58 yards rushing.    

Mount Union scored 35 points in the first quarter as Scott had a pair of touchdown runs and threw two TD passes to Roman Namdar (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and Kennedy while Nemeth also had a rushing touchdown.

Scott tossed three more touchdowns early in the second quarter – an 18-yarder to Namdar, a 39-yarder to Octavion Wilson (Lincoln, Del./Milford Senior) and one from 10 yards out to Hargrove as the Raiders led 56-0 at the break.

Jake Antel (Lakewood/Lakewood) kicked a 33-yard field goal and Berry had his 40-yard interception return in the third quarter to take the score to 66-0 while Antel's 20 yard field goal in the fourth finished the scoring.

Mount Union returns home next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. taking on Otterbein at Mount Union Stadium.
