Football: Mount Union's Lally Named North Region Defensive Player of the Year; 12 Raiders Named All-Region

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Mount Union senior defensive tackle Tom Lally (Fairview Park/Lakewood St. Edward) was named North Region Defense Player of the Year and headlined the All-Region teams picked by D3football.com.

Lally, the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year, is the second leading tackler on the nation's No. 1 ranked defense.  He has 22.5 tackles for loss and is second in the nation this season with 17.0 sacks.  Lally is Mount Union's all-time sack leader with 39.0 career sacks.

Lally is one of five All-Region First Team selections on defense as he is joined by fellow seniors in defensive end Mike Furda (Wintersville/Indian Creek), linebacker Hank Spencer (Greencastle, Ind./North Putnam), safety Alex Kocheff (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) and defensive back Tre Jones (Twinsburg/Twinsburg).

Senior quarterback Taurice Scott (Alliance/Alliance) is the All-Region First Team quarterback and joined on the first team offense by senior wide receiver Roman Namdar (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) and junior center Mitch Doraty (Medina/Medina).

Four other Raiders were on the All-Region Second Team in senior running back Logan Nemeth (McBain, Mich./McBain), senior offensive lineman Michael Frank (Eastlake/Eastlake North), junior placekicker Jake Antel (Lakewood/Lakewood) and senior linebacker Jonathan Gonell (Pembroke Pines, Fla./University School).

They led Mount Union to its 24th straight and 27th overall OAC title, while the top-ranked Raiders play this Saturday in the NCAA national semifinals against No. 5 UW-Whitewater.
