The University of Mount Union 2015 football team was named the Collegiate Team of the Year Award presented Thursday, Jan. 28 at the 16th annual Greater Cleveland Sports Awards at at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel Ballroom.

The Purple Raiders went 15-0 this past season, won their 24th consecutive and 27th overall Ohio Athletic Conference title and captured the school's record 12th NCAA Division III National Championship with a 49-35 win over St. Thomas (Minn.) in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl -- NCAA Division III National Championship game - in Salem, Va.

Four student-athletes from the 2015 team - junior center Mitch Doraty (Medina), senior safety Will Hiteshue (Medina), junior wide receiver Tim Kennedy (Hudson) and senior defensive back Nick Rodriguez (Nordonia) - all from greater Cleveland will be there to represent the program.

The event is the primary annual fundraiser for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. The Sports Commission, a 501c(3) non-profit, aims to improve the economy, image and quality of life in Greater Cleveland by attracting, managing and creating major sporting events.'

Mount Union is working with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission along with SPIRE Institute to host the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
