Mount Union's football team along with head coach Vince Kehres and senior defensive back Nick Rodriguez (Macedonia/Nordonia) will be honored tonight (March 8) at the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation annual awards banquet at the LaCentre in Westlake.
Mount Union will win the Bob Gain Cup as the best college football program in Northeast Ohio this past year as the Purple Raiders went 15-0, won their 24th consecutive and 27th overall Ohio Athletic Conference title and a record 12th NCAA Division III National Championship.
Vince Kehres is to be awarded the Lee Tressel Ohio College Coach of the Year Award that will be presented by Jim Tressel. It is the second time in his three years as head coach that Kehres has won the award who has a 43-2 record with three conference titles, three appearances in the national title game and the 2015 national title.
Nick Rodriguez is receiving a NFF Scholar Athlete Award. Rodriquez started all 15 games this past season, had 32 tackles and was second on the team with three interceptions. Off the field, he has a 3.30 grade point average as a Biology major.
