The matchup: No. 1 ranked Mount Union hosts Marietta in the Ohio Athletic Conference and home opener Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Union Stadium.
Mount Union opened the season with a 45-10 win at North Carolina Wesleyan last week. Senior running back Bradley Mitchell (Detroit, Mich./South Lake) ran for 146 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown to pace an offense that ran 91 plays and generated 595 yards.
Three freshman quarterbacks all saw action for the Purple Raiders – as Luke Poorman (Orlando, Fla./University School) started and went 7-for-12 for 82 yards, D'Angelo Fulford (Cooper City, Fla./Mirmar) threw for two scores on 12-of-18 passing for 198 yards while Dom Davis (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) played in the fourth quarter.
Charlie Dear (Massillon/Jackson) had six tackles to lead the defense.
The series: This is the 55th meeting between the teams with Mount Union holding a 45-8-1 lead in the series dating back to a 20-0 Mount Union win on September 23, 1933 in Alliance. The teams have met every year since 1981 and Mount Union has won all 35 of those meetings. The last Pioneer win was a 20-6 decision in 1977 in Marietta.
Bye Bye Bye: Mount Union will play 10-straight regular season games this year with no bye week. It is the first time since 2011 against Wisconsin-Oshkosh that the Raiders have played 10-straight regular season games.
Born to run: Senior running back Bradley Mitchell had his 13th 100-yard performance of his career with 146 yards on 20 carries at N.C. Wesleyan. Mitchell is fifth all-time at Mount Union with 3,303 rushing yards which is 43 yards from the No. 4 spot held by Jeremy Murray (2009-11).
Three of a kind: Three freshman played quarterback for Mount Union at N.C. Wesleyan. Luke Poorman became the first freshman to start a season opener for the Raiders since Bill Borchert in 1994 and ran for a score. D'Angelo Fulford threw two TD's and had a team-high 198 yards passing. Dom Davis came in for the final two drives in the fourth quarter.
Great eight: Eight different receivers caught a pass for Raiders at N.C. Wesleyan.

Junior Jared Ruth (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), who returned from missing all last year with an injury, had four catches for 91 yards.
Just for kicks: Sophomore Adam Snyder (Baltimore/Liberty Union) averaged 50 yards on three punts including a 60-yarder which was the second longest of his career. His career long punt is a 71-yard boot that happened last year at Heidelberg.
