AUSTIN, Texas -- Mount Union offensive linemen Frazier Daniel (Tiffin / Tiffin Columbian) and Matt Fitchet (Conneaut / Edgewood) have been named to the Academic All-America Football Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Fitchet is one of five repeat Academic All-Americans as the senior has started all 14 games at right tackle this season for the Purple Raiders. He has a 3.59 grade point average as an Exercise Science major. A two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC selection, Fitchet has played in every game each of the last three seasons.
Daniel, a sophomore Accounting major with a 3.80 grade point average, has also played in all 14 games on the offensive line as both he and Fitchet have been part of a line for the nation's highest scoing offense.
Both players will play for the No. 2 ranked Raiders in the Stagg Bowl -- Division III National Championship game -- Friday at 7 p.m. in Salem, Va.
They are the 64th and 65th Academic All-America selections among 49 student-athletes all-time at Mount Union that have earned the award.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by their respective sports information director.
Mount Union assistant to the athletic director Leonard Reich has served on CoSIDA's Academic All-America national committee since 2002.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
