Football: 5 Things to Know: Week 1 - Rose-Hulman

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Each week during the football season, we will give you five things to know five days before kickoff. This week the No. 1 ranked Mount Union football team opens its season hosting No. 20 ranked Rose-Hulman (Ind.). 

  1. Dom Capers Day -- Mount Union celebrates alum and longtime NFL coach Dom Capers '72 with activities throughout the day Saturday. Fans can meet Coach Capers and take self-guided tours of the Dom Capers Press Box at Mount Union Stadium beginning at 11 a.m., then at 1:30 p.m. there will be a celebration of his career with a program at the Brush Theatre in the Giese Center for Performing Arts. He will also be recognized in a pre-game ceremony at 6:45 p.m. prior to kickoff.
  2. Mount Union begins its 121st season of football Saturday at the Purple Raiders lead NCAA Division III with 784 wins all-time which is 17th-best in college football history.
  3. Mount Union is the defending NCAA Division III National Champions and the Purple Raiders enter Saturday with a nation's best 15-game winning streak. Mount Union is the consensus preseason No. 1 ranked team in the nation. Four Raiders have earned preseason All-America honors in senior defensive backs Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) and Gabe Brown (Plant City, Fla. / Durant) along with juniors in quarterback D'Angelo Fulford (Miramar, Fla. / Miramar) and wide receiver Justin Hill (Circleville).
  4. The game will be broadcast on television (tape delay) on both WIVM-TV Ch. 39 (Canton) and regional sports cable network SportsTime Ohio. WIVM-TV, channel 989 on Spectrum/Time Warner Cable, will show the game Saturday, Sept. 1 at 11 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. while SportsTime Ohio (check local listings for channel information) will show the game Monday, Sept. 3 at noon and Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 7 a.m.; Image Video will handle production duties while Jeff Shreve (play-by-play) and Harry Paidas (color) return to call the action. The game will also be broadcast LIVE on the radio on both WDPN 1310 AM and WRMU 91.1 FM.
  5. It is the first-ever meeting between Rose-Hulman and Mount Union and the first of a two-game series as both schools will play again Saturday, Sept. 7, 2019 at 7 p.m. in Terre Haute, Indiana.
