Two Mount Union football student athletes -- senior linebacker Danny Robinson (Massillon / Massillon Washington) and sophomore offensive lineman Jake Penko (Seven Hills / Padua Franciscan) have been named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Both advance to the Academic All-America ballot.
Robinson is a team captain that has led the team in tackles while be named All-Ohio Athletic Conference each of the last two seasons. This year he has 54 tackles with 3.0 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He is also a three-time Academic All-OAC selection who earned Academic All-District honors a year ago and he has a 3.72 grade point average as a Mechanical Engineering major.
Penko, who has a 3.88 grade point average with a major in National Security & Foreign Intelligence Analysis, has played in seven games on the offensive line and is an Academic All-OAC pick.
To be selected Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with at least a 3.30 grade point average. Academic All-District First Team selections advance to the national Academic All-American ballot.
Sports Information Directors within a district vote for the Academic All-District teams with members of the CoSIDA Academic All-American committee voting on the national ballot. District VII includes every NCAA Division III institutions in Indiana, Illinois and Ohio.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
