Fred Thomas is in his second year as an assistant coach at Mount Union and will work with the defensive line.
Thomas brings 40 years of coaching experience to the Purple Raiders. He began his career as an assistant coach at his alma mater -- Youngstown State in 1978 and coached their until 1986 including two years as defensive coordinator. He then entered the high school ranks with head coaching stints at Girard, Alliance and GlenOak High Schools over the next 13 years. Thomas returned to college football in 1999 joining the staff at Walsh for 16 years before going to Malone. After a year as an assistant at Malone, he took over as head coach for three years.
Thomas received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Youngstown State in 1979 and his master’s degree from Ashland University in 1994.
Fred and his wife, Mia, reside in Perry Township and are the parents of a son Ben and daughter Mollie. Mollie is a member of the volleyball team at Mount Union.
