Men's Basketball Gets Back on Track With Win Over Wilmington

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union snapped a four-game losing streak with a 69-67 Ohio Athletic Conference men's basketball victory against Wilmington Saturday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.

With a 65-64 lead, Mount Union senior Dave Pellerite (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) hit a three-pointer and a free throw in the game's final 30 seconds to preserve the victory.

Pellerite and junior Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) each led the Purple Raiders with 18 points.  Senior guard Ben Hodkinson (Tippecanoe/Harrison Central) hit four three's and had 14 points while sophomore forward Matt Kiger (Williamstown, W.Va./Williamstown) had 11 points in his second start of the season.

Antonio Bowman scored a game-high 20 points to lead Wilmington that rallied from a 16-point deficit in the first half to lead 37-33 at halftime. 

Mount Union opened the second half on an 11-4, with Wood scoring five of those 11 points, as the Raiders retook the lead and never trailed the rest of the way. 

The win evens the Purple Raiders OAC record at 7-7 (9-12 overall) and keeps them in fifth place by themselves and only a game behind fourth place Heidelberg.

Wilmington has lost four of its last five games and is now 8-13 overall and 4-10 in the OAC.
