Men's Basketball Set to Travel to Waynesburg (Pa.)

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's men's basketball seeks its fourth consecutive win when it travel to Waynesburg (Pa.) Saturday afternoon for a 3 p.m. tip-off.

The Purple Raiders (3-1), used a second half surge to defeat Westminster (Pa.) , 88-64, on Tuesday after trailing by two points at halftime. Senior Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) recorded his second career double-double with a gameihgh 20 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) scored 17 points, freshman Stevie Griffin (Canton/Massillon Jackson) scored 15 points, and junior Keith Williams (Louisville, Ky./Brown) added 13 points for the Raiders.

Wood leads the Raiders in both scoring (18.2) and rebounding (7.8). Griffin is scoring 11.5 ppg off the bench has made a team-best 11 three-pointers. Jacubec adds 10.8 ppg. Junior Tom Berlekamp (North Royalton/Holy Name) and senior Matt Wier (New Castle, Pa./Mohawk) have been strong on the boards, averaging 6.8 rpg and 5.0 rpg respectively.

Waynesburg (1-3) enters the game on a three-game losing streak. The Yellow Jackets opened the season with a 84-51 win over Franciscan before falling to Penn State-Beaver, LaRoche, and Baldwin-Wallace. Senior guard Larry Alexander paced Waynesburg with 11 points in their 78-39 loss to Baldwin-Wallace Tuesday night. The Yellow Jackets shot just 29.8% from the field and commited 26 turnovers in the defeat.

Alexander leads Waynesburg with 9.3 ppg off the bench. Senior forward Lou Galante leads the team in rebounding (4.5) and is the top scorer among starters at 8.8 ppg. Senior guard Luke Baker and junior cener Kurt Bonbnet contribute 6.8 ppg and 6.3 ppg, respectively, for the Yellow Jackets.

Last Meeting

Mount Union pulled out a 98-92 double-overtime win over theYellow Jackets last year in Alliance. The Raiders were led in scoring by Ben Hodkinson (22) and 20 points each from Wood and junior Matt Kiger (Williamstown, W. Va./Williamstown). Bonnet (12 points), Baker (10 points), and Galante (10 points) contributed off the bench for Waynesburg.
