Mount Union's Wood Named OAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio—Mount Union senior forward Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) has been named Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week the conference announced Monday.

Wood had 48 points, 11 rebounds, and zero turnovers last week to lead the Purple Raiders to a pair of wins, clinching the No. 7 seed in this week's OAC Tournament.

He scored just nine points in a 62-57 win over Baldwin-Wallace last Wednesday, but came up with a big steal and followed by a three-pointer late in the Raiders' comeback victory.

Facing possibly the last game of his collegiate career, Wood scored a career-high 39 points on Saturday as Mount Union rallied from a double-digit deficit to pick up a 91-87 overtime win against Heidelberg. He scored 24 points after halftime and connected on five three-pointers.

On the season, Wood leads the OAC in scoring at 18.4 points per game and three-pointers with 61. He enters tonight's first round OAC Tournament game at Ohio Northern ninth on Mount Union's all-time scoring list with 1,280 career points.

The Raiders are set for a 7:30 pm tip-off tonight at Ohio Northern in the opening round of the 2012 OAC Tournament. With a win, the Raiders would travel to Marietta Tuesday night for a quarterfinals matchup with the Pioneers at 7:30 pm.
