COLUMBUS, Ohio - - Mount Union's men's basketball team fell 61-57 to Capital in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener, Saturday (Dec 1. ) in Columbus.
With the win, Capital improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while Mount Union falls to 1-5 and 0-1 in the conference.
Freshman Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) led the Raiders with 11 points and added career-high three steals and freshman Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) chipped in with 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Raiders, while Spencer Niekamp and Tim Congrove had 14 points apiece to lead the Crusaders.
Senior Matt Kiger (Williamstown, W. Va./Williamstown) scored the game's first basket at the 19:26 mark, and the Raiders would start the game on an 8-0 run.
Capital would answer back over the next 3:06 with an 11-0 run, to give the Crusdaders an 11-8 lead.
The Crusaders would end the half on a 12-2 run for a 31-22 advantage at halftime.
Freshman Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) hit a pair of free at 15:09 to give the Raiders a 33-31 lead, which capped a 13-0 run to begin the second half. Mount Union would take its final lead of the game when Dillon hit a layup with 9:48 left.
Capital would lead by as much as six for the rest of the game and came out victorious in the conference opener for both teams.
The Raiders travel to University Heights, Ohio for their next game Wednesday (Dec. 5) to take on John Carroll with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
