GAME PREVIEW: Men’s Basketball Faces Conference Rival John Carroll Wednesday

 Mount Union's men's basketball team (1-5, 0-1) travels to University Heights, Ohio Wednesday (Dec. 5) to face Ohio Athletic Conference rival John Carroll (3-2, 1-0) at 7:00 p.m.

 MOUNT UNION

The Purple Raiders are coming off a 61-57 loss to Capital in their OAC opener Saturday. Freshmen Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) led the way with 11 points, while freshman Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) chipped in with 10 to round out the double-digit scorers for the Raiders.

On the season, sophomore Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) leads the way with 12.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals.

Senior Matt Kiger (Williamstown, W. Va./Williamstown) has gone 21-30 (0.700) on field goals this season, which is tops in the conference.

JOHN CARROLL

John Carroll is coming off an 83-77 victory over Heidelberg in their last game.

Last season, the Blue Streaks finished the season with an 18-7 overall record and went 13-5 in conference play, earning the number one seed in the OAC tournament, advancing to the semi-finals, but lost to Wilmington 79-74.

Kyle Hubbard leads the Blue Streaks with 17.2 points and 6.4 rebounds.

 COACHES

Mike Fuline (Kent State '98) is 12-20 in his second season as head coach at Mount Union after a successful career at the high school level that included winning the 2010 OHSAA Division I State Championship at Massillon Jackson.  Prior to coach at Massillon, he was the head coach at Rootstown high school (2003-2005). At Rootstown, his 2003-04 team posted a 16-6 record and won a sectional championship while his 2004-05 team went 20-4, shared the league title and won a district championship. Fuline was named 2004 Ohio's Division III Co-Coach of the Year.

Mike Moran (Xavier '73) is 366-186 in his 21st season as head coach. In 20 years of basketball under Moran, the Blue Streaks have won ten Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championships (1994, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012), three OAC Tournament championships (2003, 2004, 2009) and have appeared in the NCAA Division III playoffs on ten occasions (1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2010). In nine different years, his teams have posted at least 20 wins.
