
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - - Sophomore Nate Jacubec (Struthers/Struthers) had a season-high 23 points as Mount Union's men's basketball team won 92-76 at John Carroll in an Ohio Athletic Conference game Wednesday evening.
With the win, Mount Union improves to 2-5 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, while John Carroll falls to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Along with Jacubec, freshmen Cody Dillon (Newton Falls/Newton Falls) had 20, Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) had 12 and Kyle Scelza (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) had 11 to round out the double digit scorers for the Raiders, while Kyle Hubbard led the Blue Streaks with 16.
The Blue Streaks led for most of the first half and led by as much as 11 points.
The Raiders took their first lead of the game when Scelza hit a 3 pointer with 1:15 remaining in the first period to make the score 38-37 Raiders.
David Hendrickson hit a 3 pointer with seven seconds remaining in the half to make the score 40-38 Blue Streaks, which would be the score at halftime.
Senior Matt Kiger (Williamstown, W. Va./Williamstown) scored a layup at the 18:59 mark of the second half to give the Raiders the lead at 42-41, and the Raiders would lead for the rest of the game.
Jacubec hit a three-pointer with 5:07 remaining in the second half to make the score 80-65, which would be the Raiders biggest lead on the evening.
Mount Union returns home to host Heidelberg in its OAC home opener with tipoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
