GAME PREVIEW- Men's Basketball Travels To Heidelberg Saturday

Mount Union's men's basketball team (6-10, 4-5 OAC) travels to Tiffin, Ohio to face Heidelberg (9-7, 4-5 OAC) in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.

THE SERIES

This will be the 67th meeting between the two schools with Mount Union having won three straight games and holding a 35-31 overall advantage.

In the matchup earlier this season, the Purple Raiders were victorious in a close fought game 68-67.

Freshman Taylor Moore (North Canton/Hoover) scored the go ahead free-throw to put the Raiders up 1 at 68-67 with 44 seconds left.

The Student Princes had the last possession, but the Raiders defense proved too strong as Nate Davis put up a shot as time expired, but it fell short, and Mount Union would come out with the victory 68-67.

The Purple Raiders are coming off a 91-69 victory over Muskingum Wednesday night in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Raiders never trailed in the game and would lead by as much as 32 points.

 COACH

Mike Fuline (Kent State '98) is in his second season as head coach at Mount Union and has compiled a 17-25 overall record as head coach of the Purple Raiders.  Prior to becoming head coach of the Raiders, Fuline had a successful coaching career at the high school level that included winning the 2010 OHSAA Division I State Championship at Massillon Jackson.  Prior to coach at Massillon, he was the head coach at Rootstown high school (2003-2005). At Rootstown, his 2003-04 team posted a 16-6 record and won a sectional championship while his 2004-05 team went 20-4, shared the league title and won a district championship. Fuline was named 2004 Ohio's Division III Co-Coach of the Year.

Heidelberg

The Student Princes come into Saturday's game having lost their last game 75-65 at home to Baldwin Wallace. Prior to the loss in their last game, Heidelberg had won three straight games over Otterbein (70-63), Ohio Northern (82-73) and Muskingum (92-67).

Nate Davis averages a double-double on the season with 15.5 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.

Davis has had an impressive senior season thus far as he ranks first in the OAC in rebounds (10.2), blocks (2.5) and is fifth in points (15.6)

Last season, the Student Princes compiled a 7-18 record and went 5-13 in the OAC which was tied for ninth place in the conference.

COACH

Anthony Gholson (Ohio Northern '88) is in his sixth season as head coach of Heidelberg and as compiled a 46-67 record as head coach of the Student Princes. Prior to becoming head coach of the Student Princes, Gholson was previously an assistant at Ohio Northern and head coach at Columbus State Community college.

During his tenure as head coach at Columbus State Community College (2000-04), he led the Cougars to an 86-36 record (.704 winning percentage). In his last season at Columbus State, his team was ranked No. 1 in the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II with a 29-2 record. That same year, they won the Ohio Community Athletic Conference Championship.
